The recent exoneration of Manu Sharma and others in the age old Jessica Lal murder case has again put a question mark on the effeciency of our law enforcement system. The murderer(incidentally a spoilt brat of some bigwig) went scot-free despite the fact that the crime was committed in full public view at a prominent public place during a party.Yet, even though Delhi Police laid hands on him early enough they were lax in finding witnesses and protecting them. The result- Most of them turned hostile or had amnesia in court. The role of Police needs questioning as they allegedly accepted bribes in lieu of slowing the investigation.Shocked by the verdict, the peple have asked for re-investigation.But I don't think a re-investigation is necessary or for that matter effective. The offenders will once again flex their muscles and the witnesses will have memory failure in courts. Its high time we as people learnt to stand up for truth and the police realised their duty.
