These r d views and info given by a student of IIM-L

ACADS The myth about IIMs being a place where you have to study damn hard and you hardly get to sleep is something that is subjective. You can choose how much you want to study and how much you want to chill. In the end the choice you made will probably show up in your grade sheet. Subjects are awesome...especially if you are tired of studying about BJTs and C++ In term 1 we have 8 subjects....4 for 1 credit each and 4 of half credit. Two of the four half credit courses end before mid terms and the other two start after mid terms. The subjects in term 1 are: 1. Management Accounting(MANAC): This is the most feared subject for engineers...it is basically accounting and is hard to grasp at first, but it is a must if you want to go into finance. 2. Behaviour in Organisations (BIO) : HR course...general thassa about how junta behaves while working in groups and what they think, want etc etc. Basically nice to read but it is what we call "GLOBE" which is simply another name for thassa 3. Legal Aspects in Management(LAM): Law...bahut ratna padta hai but it is really interesting when you apply law to cases...really makes u think about the nitty gritties. 4. Economics: We are being taught microeco initially which is about supply demand efficient production and all that...is really intersting to see how so much ECO is simply common sense 5. QAM : basically maths 6. communication for managers: you learn how to make ppts, resume, an impression and write business letters 7.ITM( Information Tech and Mgmt) : havent had this yet... post midterm classes start from tuesday. 8.OM( Operations Mgmt): same as 7 Some Profs are absolute gods and some are good.Everyone keeps you on your toes by the use of a tool called "quiz"...this is simply another name for class test.Since continous evaluation is followed so you need to be up to date with everything.Number of quizzes depends on the prof. For eg wek had 5 quizzes in MANAC before mid term + the mid term itself while we had none in ECO. Generally there is equal weightage for mid term and end term ~ 35% and about 30% for quizzes and projects...but some variation is there in some subjects. ATTENDANCE ...if you have less than 80% attendance then you get a grade drop...i.e if you have B then you get C and so on. GRADING SYSTEM like our NIT.....here you have CGPA( cumulative grade point average) which is basically on a scale of 10. You also have RG= relative grading i.e. you get a good grade only if you are above the average and not in absolute score...i.e. you may get 90 but if everyone got 95 then you are in trouble. grades are from A+ A A- B+ and so on to D and F A+ gets you a 10 and an F gets you 0 If you get more than one F in the whole course then you are thrown out LIBRARY 24X7 and an absolute heaven...AC is awesome and it is simply the best place to study or even sleep on the couches. Believe me...
